The Münster cluster-jet target for the future P̅ANDA experiment

For high precision storage ring experiments as the future P̅ANDA experiment, very sophisticated internal targets have to be used. this purpose, a state-of-the-art cluster-jet target was developed at University Münster. Basically, hydrogen is cooled cryogenic temperatures and pressed through specially shaped Laval nozzle form expanding into vacuum. Due stability large mass of clusters, practically undisturbed flight path in vacuum above 5 m possible, leading manifold possible applications, including interaction with beam distance 2.25 desired for experiment. With first prototype target, “proof-of-principle” delivered, after improvements world record thickness such measured. Based on work, final built up, presented article.
